London continued to make its mark from the artists of the Tudor period like Shakespeare to the Great Fire of London in 1666 to the crime ridden era of the late 18th century. The late 1800's and early 1900's were difficult times given increased traffic, disease and crime. But These tough times led to the great ingenuity like the world's first urban rail network, the printing press which increased literacy and better organized policing. War ravaged London in both the first and second World Wars, but as was its character London continued to prosper. The 1900's saw London grow to be the mecca of cultural diversity and vibrancy that continues today.
This London map, illustrated by Chris Robitaille prior to the inception of Xplorer Maps, serves as both a city street map as well as marks the attractions that represent the historical significance of this great city. At its center stands the imposing Houses of Parliament, the iconic ‘Big Ben’ clock tower and Westminster Abbey, site of British monarch coronations. The London map also features iconic landmarks like Regent's and Hyde parks, the Tower Bridge, St. Paul's Cathedral, Piccadilly Circus and the infamous London Double Decker Buses. The list of elements included in this hand-drawn London map go on and on and each is captured with true Chris Robitaille attention to detail and artistry.
The London map is approximately 24" wide x 18" tall and is printed with eco-friendly inks on enhanced matte paper. This is an Epson Ultra Premium Presentation matte finish 10.3 ml paper that displays exceptionally well.

Every single line, letter and image has been intricately rendered entirely by hand. Each is unique and original to every new map we create. These maps are truly custom and one of a kind!
The medium used by world-renowned illustrator Chris Robitaille for these hand-drawn maps is pen & ink with multiple layers of watercolor washes. Depending on the depth of detail in the map being rendered, the actual art process takes anywhere from 5-8 weeks.
