Rocky Mountain National Park

Established in 1915 by President Woodrow Wilson, Rocky Mountain National Park encompasses more than 415 square miles; has 60 peaks that tower above 12,00 feet; offers 350 miles of hiking trails, and is home to the highest paved road in the U.S. (Trail Ridge Road reaches an elevation of over 12,100 feet). Rocky Mountain National Park receives more than 4 million visitors annually.
The Continental Divide runs directly through the center of this park with the headwaters of the Colorado River located in the Northwest region. All of this incredible landscape is inseparably connected. The riparian wetland ecosystem, abundant with plant and animal life, gives way to evergreen forests and high mountain lakes that lead to an alpine tundra environment highlighted by wildflowers and majestic mountain peaks. In 1976, UNESCO designated the park as one of the first World Biosphere Reserves.
