Acadia National Park

Discover Acadia National Park through this original hand-drawn story map by Chris Robitaille. Established as Sieur de Monts National Monument in 1916, renamed Lafayette National Park in 1919, and officially becoming Acadia National Park in 1929, it was the first national park east of the Mississippi and remains Maine's pride.

Spanning over 49,000 acres, Acadia attracts more than 3.5 million visitors annually. The park showcases Maine's diverse landscapes, from coniferous woodlands and glacier-carved granite peaks to historic carriage roads and rugged ocean coastline.

Inhabited by Native Americans of the Algonquin Nations for at least 12,000 years, the Wabanaki Confederacy has celebrated an annual Native American Festival in Bar Harbor since 1989. Every purchase supports conservation efforts to protect our public lands and natural beauty.
