Texas: Lone Star State
Original, hand-drawn story map and accompanying gifts of Texas by renowned Illustrator and Xplorer Maps Co-Founder, Chris Robitaille.
As the second-largest state in both population and land area, Texas joined the Union in 1848, becoming the 28th state. Known as the Lone Star State, Texas celebrates its history as a former independent republic and its fight for independence from Mexico. The name "Texas" comes from the Caddo word “Tejas,” meaning ‘friends.’
Texas's vast landscapes range from coastal swamps and piney woods to rolling plains, rugged hills, deserts, and mountains in Big Bend. Highlights include the historic Alamo, San Antonio’s Riverwalk, Austin’s vibrant music scene, Fort Worth Stockyards, Houston’s Space Center, and the Gulf Coast. True to its motto, “Everything is Big in Texas,” this state offers a rich tapestry of experiences and sights.
