Original hand-drawn pen and ink/watercolor story map of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area highlighting the mesmerizing rock formations, towering mountains walls, as well as unique desert wildlife.

Located in the Mojave Desert of Nevada just a 30-minute drive from Las Vegas, the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is a geologic wonder that attracts over 2 million visitors a year to experience the grandeur of the conservation area’s landmark sites many of which are the result of the geologic phenomena, the Keystone Thrust. This occurs when older layers of gray limestone are pushed on top of younger sandstone and then the differing layers are exposed over time due to the weathering process leaving vibrantly striated jagged hills and red canyons. While the park extends north and south covering close to 200,000 acres, the majority of the canyons and areas to recreate are packed into the southern half of the conservation area, south of the La Madre Mountains range.

Outdoor enthusiasts will find themselves in paradise in the conservation area with the endless opportunities to recreate and enjoy the various canyons, vibrantly-striped peaks, landmark sites, and wilderness areas including: Pine Creek Canyon, Turtlehead Peak, White Rock Hills, Calico Hills, Mt. Wilson, Rainbow Mtn, Bridge Mtn, Sandstone Quarry as well as the various sites with historic petroglyphs left from indigenous tribes of the area.

These sites attract people from all over the world to enjoy unparalleled rock climbing, biking, hiking, as well as horseback trail rides, and the opportunity to tour part of the conservation by car on the scenic drive which passes through the core of the southern half of the area.

In addition to the stunning views, this map celebrates the wide array of plants and wildlife found across the conservation area including: desert tortoise, bobcats, desert bighorns, wild burros, red-tailed hawks, mojave green rattlesnake, cactus wren, black-tailed jackrabbits, antelope ground squirrels, pinyon pines, juniper, pygmy agave, globemallow, desert marigolds, and mojave yucca.
