Isle Royale National Park

Isle Royale National Park is a remote island in the middle of Lake Superior that's home to a large population of wolves, bears, moose,  and eagles. The park offers several hiking trails for all skill levels, as well as canoeing and kayaking.

The best part about Isle Royale National Park is how remote it feels. You feel like you're miles and miles away from civilization. Getting to Isle Royale can be tricky if you haven’t done your homework. You can access the island by boat or plane, as there are no cars allowed on the island. Once you arrive, you can borrow or rent bikes if needed; otherwise, it's hiking or paddling around these beautiful lakeside locations.

Tahquamenon Falls

If you're looking for an adventure, Tahquamenon Falls is a great place to start. Located in the Tahquamenon River State Park, the upper Tahquamenon Falls is 50 feet tall and 200 feet wide! The lower falls are located about five miles downstream from the upper falls and are made up of five smaller waterfalls. Both offer incredible views and can be seen by either hiking or taking a boat ride.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is a part National Park Service on Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It's home to miles of sandstone cliffs whose colors and formations inspired its name. The park is about 90 minutes from the town of Marquette, so if you're passing through town on your way to somewhere else (say, Tahquamenon Falls), it's worth stopping here for a few hours before moving along. You can also stay in Munising or nearby towns like Grand Marais and hike to see Pictured Rocks at sunset or sunrise when they aren't as crowded. The best time of year to visit is during spring when there are fewer crowds but plenty of waterfalls flowing into Lake Superior and wildflowers blooming everywhere!

Mackinac Island

Mackinac Island is a popular tourist destination in Michigan situated on Lake Huron between the upper and lower peninsulas. Mackinac Island is a car-free island, allowing for pleasant bike rides or even a horse-drawn carriage. The island operates seasonally, with most of the businesses and gift shops only open from May through October. But don’t let that stop you from visiting in winter! The winter season brings a quieter experience of the island, allowing you to experience the magic of snow falling in a more peaceful environment. Whether you visit in the high season of summer or the quiet respite of winter, there are plenty of restaurants and shops on this historic island, so you'll find something that suits your tastes.

Sleeping Bear Dunes

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a part of the National Park Service, located on the coast of Lake Michigan. The best way to see these dunes is via a hike along one of the many hiking trails. For those who want something more relaxing, there are plenty of beach activities as well like swimming lessons, kayaking lessons, and boat rentals.
