Xplorer Maps Releases Hand-Drawn Michigan State Map Featuring Lakes, Landscapes and Lighthouses
Xplorer Maps, the creators of hand-illustrated maps of national parks and travel destinations throughout the world, announced today that it has released the newest fine-art map, the Michigan State Map. With stunning landscapes, lakes, waterfalls and wildlife, the Michigan map is one of the company’s most captivating and compelling renderings to date.
World-renowned artist Chris Robitaille, co-founder of Xplorer Maps, illustrated the Michigan map using an antique, old-world style and featuring the Great Lakes, the Upper and Lower Peninsulas, forested lands, accessible wilderness, unique landscapes and vast wildlife. With a population of about 10 million, Michigan is the 10th most populated and the largest state by total area east of the Mississippi River.
“As is most often the case, the juxtaposition between land and water provided a captivating and compelling artistic element during the rendering of this map,” according to artist Chris Robitaille. “To learn about the special connection with lighthouses, shorelines and waterfalls for Michigan folks inspired me to pay even closer attention to detail and create something very special and unique for the people who love Michigan. It’ a super interesting state to feature because of the two distinct regions that pull together to make one amazing place.”
Greg Robitaille, president and co-founder of Xplorer Maps, said “My brother and I are extremely excited, proud and somewhat emotional about the rendering and release of this new map of Michigan. From a personal standpoint, the Great Lakes region is where our late father spent many years working on the huge 700-foot lake freighters up and down those coastlines as a young man right out of high school in southern Ontario. It was pretty special researching this map project and remembering so many of the ports and places we heard stories about growing up.”
He added that “from a company perspective, it's been a few years in the planning to head eastward and get closer to home (Toronto) by featuring the Great Lakes states, and Michigan seemed like the ideal place to start. I may be a little biased, but I think my brother has once again done an incredible job capturing the spirit and connecting people and place.”
